“All the hotels in Montrose, CO are overpriced, compared to other cities. The hotel was outdated in both decor and maintenance. The room was large but the space was wasted, laid out strangely and seemed, as if it were re purposed from other space (a warehouse). It sounded like a computer server room when I walked in. All switches were off, but still the fan noise was incredible. The water pipe noise was musical. The engineering HVAC noise was cacophonous. Together, the ensemble made me want a whole BAG of earplugs - shoved all in at the same time! Even with the heater off, it was almost too loud to sleep from noise inside the room. My car outside would have been much, much quieter. But it was 10 degrees. The room leaked hot air so fast that you could feel it getting colder when the heater turned off. The heater came on, then, every five minutes with a cymbal crash that would have complemented John Bonham's Moby Dick. The front desk has a huge step made of tile and concrete just a few feet inside the front door. From the large caution -
trip hazard sign, it is all too clear what happened to elderly guests that tried to make it to the check-in counter. What about guests like me with snow all over my boots? Snow, ice and smooth, slippery tile? Really? This IS Colorado, right? We checked in late (10 PM) and the guy at the counter reminded me of Stephen King. Not the coziest feeling. But he did nothing wrong, was just friendly enough, but had the Arie that he had rather be watching TV or in bed himself. Still, staff gets the highest rating in this review. The beds were comfortable but the sheets were itchy and Roch. I ended up sleeping with a shirt under my face, because
I am a stomach sleeper. Woke with some crazy wrinkles I did not have the night before. Good thing I was not there for a speaking engagement.
