“Three words for this place they call a hotel - nightmare in Emeryville! Please read entire complaint if you care at all for your safety and well being! As you are walking up to this place at night, it looks good from far, but far from good! The location is ghetto - I did not feel safe especially when car alarms in the parking lot would constantly go off every 15 minutes or so and I kept looking out the window to see if there were cops or security making their rounds, but didnt see anybody. As I looked out the window I also noticed we were a hundred yards or so from the i580/i80 freeways and below the freeways you could see dozens of homeless. I would have rather slept in our van. They sent us to the 4th or 5th floor (smoking floor), and the air was so thick with cigarette and pot smoke that you could cut it with a knife. The walls and carpets were third world. I had to go to the grocery store to buy liquid drano because the shower was clogged and maintenance never showed up after a full day of waiting. Management didnt seem to care and they said they would reimburse me for the drano, but I didnt even try. There are so many disgusting things to list that I could write a pamphlet, but one really gross incident happened when I took the elevator to go to the store, and saw a pillow in the corner of the elevator which had some clear liquid coming from underneath it; I didnt stay long enough to get a whiff of the smell - I plugged my nose!”

“Seedy industrial area, clean, but a bit threadbare hotel, skimpy towels, tiny TV. A last resort hotel (which it was for us - a concert weekend with everything else sold out).”

“ Excellent place to stay if you like cooking your own meals. There is a beautiful fully functional kitchen with utensils. ”

“ Scratched graffiti doors and poorly ventilated elevators were the first sign this place was a flop-house. The carpets on the fourth floor were filthy and frayed. The room had cigarette burns on the counters, the television, and the awful comforter. I would never recommend this place to anyone. They have made a detractor out of me. I will tell others to stay away from this place. ”

“Nice large clean rooms and very quiet. A good deal at the price I paid. It is two star. Weaknesses in include crumby TV and remote (even after replacing the remote), weak WiFi, and a dicey neighborhood. I've stayed here several times and will again, but don't count on good TV or WiFi.”

“The location was great. It was close to I-80 and had easy access to the Bay Bridge into San Francisco. It was also easy to get into Oakland and other surrounding areas. There was a nice, upscale shopping mall a few blocks away. The stairs smelled terribly, like a mixture of stale cigarette smoke and strong cleaners. But the room smelled fine and was sufficiently clean. They did not provide many towels and only 2 bars of soap, no shampoo or lotion. The air conditioning was not turned on when we arrived so the room was a little too warm. The AC was quite loud and woke us up several times during the night. Overall, it was a fine hotel for our needs and the amount of money we spent.”

“I requested a different microwave (turntable not working, power setting only worked on high). I requested stoppers be fixed in bath sink, and tub. I called several times, and by the end of the week none of the above were fixed. When a location charges a fee for Internet, and bills it as high speed it should be able to download a file faster than 32K the typical evening rate. Obviously Emerville has some problems, not the usual quality I get at extended stay in America.”

“Location was good for being near bay bridge, access was a little tricky but close to many attractions and well priced. Staff was friendly, would stay again.”

“Hotel was undergoing major renovations during our stay, which likely skews our ratings. Staff was always helpful and responded to our requests immediately. Rooms were surprisingly quiet, given proximity to interstate (excellent window soundproofing). Hotel is located between major shopping area and graffiti-covered overpass. Security was visibly present and we had no problems, but some travelers might be uncomfortable with this location. There is no restaurant, pool and courtesy computer.”

“This place overlooks a freeway on ramp and is depressing to stay in. The rooms make Motel 6 look luxurious. The staff is indifferent at best. The best thing about it was free parking.”

“This hotel was more for the working class that needed a place to stay. While it was sufficient for our needs, we spent little time since there were no places to eat or things to do.”

“Ex. Stay America-Oakland/Emery is a clean, modern, very basic, studio-room hotel. Very convenient to basic shopping, with upscale shopping and dining about 1 mile away. Easy public transit (bus) access, though 1.4 miles from BART. Free parking and adjacent to Expo center. Good for business travel or budget minded. Bare-bones hotel services & minimalist housekeeping makes it less desirable for family or non-economy traveler.”

“Smelled like smoke from the time I walked in. Vending machines took my money and didn't give any product, had to request a different room because of smoke.”

“When I arrived it was very late but the hotel clerk was very friendly. The hotel rooms are all inside the interior a bit dingy, but the room was nice and clean and I would recommend for people who just need a clean, safe place to stay. Not for romantic get way but definitely kid friendly. Next to nice shopping center.”

“We had the fire alarms going off during our stay. We had a notice about the fire alarm but, it was for a different date. The room had a terrible odor. We had to keep the windows open (next to a freeway). The carpets were stained. The rooms need to be updated to match the outside of the building.”
